The most dangerous spirit in a human being, even more dangerous than fear and the devil himself is self. SELF is inquisitive and too soon comparative and too much self-assertive. When the devil had tested man and desired a way to destroy him, he looked in to what brought himself down, SELF. All the things that are said to be the character of God or love are the imperative opposite of SELF. They are a head-on negative of what SELF ministers to us to be.
