Seeking Common Ground: How to Decarbonize Oil and Gas Production Emissions in a Polarized World

Autor Farshid Mostowfi
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 14 dec 2026
Seeking Common Ground offers a pragmatic approach to one of today's most polarizing issues: climate change and the role of the oil and gas industry. Rather than taking sides in the debate between climate advocates and growth proponents, the book identifies a domain where action does not depend on first winning that argument: the industry's own production emissions. By focusing on roughly 10 percent of global emissions, the share that comes from getting oil and gas out of the ground and to market, the author lays out a realistic framework for cuts that are the industry's direct responsibility, achievable now, and defensible regardless of where a reader stands on the climate debate.
This practical guide:
  • Examines both economic-growth and climate-policy perspectives on fossil fuels to locate genuine common ground.
  • Provides detailed technical analysis of emissions sources and life-cycle assessments.
  • Showcases proven emission-reduction technologies alongside the research still needed.
  • Draws on the industry's own safety-culture transformation, the shift that produced today's Life-Saving Rules, as a working model for decarbonization.
  • Offers targeted recommendations for executives, employees, and policymakers.
  • Equips readers to move past ideological stalemate and take immediate, effective action within one of the world's most influential industries.
Written for energy executives, engineers, geologists, regulators, policymakers, environmental advocates, and informed citizens, the book provides rare common ground in a divisive conversation. Readers will come away with a nuanced understanding of how the oil and gas industry can substantially cut its carbon footprint while continuing to meet global energy needs.
