Kate stretches her legs and turns on the TV while James washes away the traces of their morning. She watches in horror at the unfolding news: the hotel they are staying in has been taken under siege.

She should be making her way home, working on appearing normal, getting ready to re-enter family life with her loving husband Vic and their two adored children. Instead, she is trapped somewhere she shouldn't be, with a man she definitely doesn't love.

How will she begin to tell Vic what she is doing here? If her body is found, will it give up the secret of what she's been up to? She's been so careful hiding the evidence of her affair: write nothing down, leave no trace. Will he begin to understand why?

For now, Kate can only hide, take a deep breath, and reflect on the series of choices she's made that have brought her to this moment.

What will her marriage and her life look like, if she makes it out?

Recenzii

[A] tender, thoughtful novel, which is part thriller, part exploration of what it is to be a woman and the huge expectations put on you
Tense, tender and witty, this beautifully-written thriller had me ripping through the pages to the heartstopping ending
An intriguing exploration of marriage and infidelity, this would make a great book club read
Riveting, this novel explores secrets, consequences and morality
A brave, gripping debut
A gripping and tense debut novel, that poses questions about womanhood and the ripple effect of the choices we make
A suspenseful real-time page-turner with an ending that demands to be talked about
Room 706 is as tender as it is surprising, a gripping interrogation of womanhood-before and after marriage and children change our identities. I'm sure I won't be the only one nodding my head throughout. I adored this brilliant novel
Room 706 explores what makes us who we are, why we make the choices we do and what might have happened if we didn't. The pacing of this novel is immaculate. Is it a thriller? It's most definitely thrilling, heart-in-mouth writing. But it's also so poignant, heart-breaking and utterly human, and the ending is PERFECT
Unputdownable is over-used in my opinion but this book really is. I devoured it. Brilliant premise, gorgeously-drawn characters, thoughtful yet tense, I had goosebumps at the end and I haven't stopped thinking about it. Out next year it's going to be huge, trust me on this.
Ellie Levenson's explosive debut is dangerously brilliant
Ellie Levenson writes with sensitivity about marriage, motherhood, and the transgressive pursuit of desire. Room 706 is nuanced and compassionate in the questions it asks and the easy answers it refuses to give
A tense exploration of desire and womanhood... gripping, layered, and thrilling
Room 706 is an utterly brilliant read. A woman's memories, actions, and impulses are laid bare against a sense of dread that builds with every page. I could not stop reading.
A love story wrapped up in a grenade. I recommend.
Likely to be one of THE books of 2026, pacey throughout.
A tense, riveting read about the unpredictable ripple effects luck and choices can have, and an absorbing examination of a woman's attempts to understand herself and her place in the world
Fiendishly addictive, smart, moving and original, I tore through this outstanding debut. Levenson's writing is taut, funny and deeply, beautifully human - a fantastic premise handled with razor-sharp precision
What clever and captivating set-up...what I loved most was the high stakes tied up with motherhood and marriage. A gripping read, grounded in humanity. It's brilliant!
Room 706 is part page-turning thriller, part a heart-breaking exploration of marriage and sexual desire. Beautifully written with characters that grab hold of your emotions and don't let go. I thought it was wonderful.
I was absolutely blown away by this book. It's a literary thriller but also a romance, as well as a reflection on motherhood and the desire for something for yourself which almost any mother will relate to. Beautifully written and kept me reading long into the night. Ideal for book clubs with plenty to discuss on many levels - I totally loved the ending too. I massively recommend, and can't wait to see what Ellie writes next.
