Your brain learned these patterns. It can learn new ones.

Through real-life stories and practical neuroscience, discover how to change the patterns shaping your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships.

Much of what we do happens automatically. Our brains build pathways from repeated thoughts, emotions, and experiences, then rely on those pathways to help us respond quickly. A sharp comment lands, and before you've thought it through, you're defensive. A piece of feedback arrives, and you're already building your case against it. These automatic reactions are meant to protect us. But they can also keep us stuck, pulling us away from the people we want to be and the lives we want to create.

In REFRAME, Nancy Post makes the science of the brain understandable and useful. Drawing on more than 35 years of Fortune 100 engineering and leadership experience, training in neuroscience-based coaching, and the lessons of growing up the youngest of 15 children, she explores why we:

  • Become defensive and misread one another
  • Resist constructive feedback
  • Repeat unhelpful, automatic habits
  • Act against what matters most to us

Each of the book's 14 chapters combines brain science with honest stories and practical reflection, giving you the tools to recognize the patterns driving your reactions and build new ones with intention.

Understanding your brain will not eliminate difficult moments. It gives you greater choice in how you respond.

Notă biografică

Nancy Post spent more than thirty-five years in engineering and manufacturing at Rockwell International and John Deere, retiring as a vice president. She led global teams, helped bring autonomous technology to market, and became John Deere's first female engineering director. What she learned along the way was that being technically right was rarely enough. The work that mattered most came down to how people think, how they hear one another, and what they do when they feel threatened.Driven by this insight, Nancy trained through the NeuroLeadership Institute in 2014 and began coaching while still at John Deere. Today she runs Nancy Post Coaching, partnering with executives and leadership teams navigating intense transition and change. She also serves as a senior advisor to Boston Consulting Group. The youngest of fifteen children, Nancy was analyzing human dynamics long before she studied neuroscience. Watching her parents build the patterns that still hold their large family together taught her much of what she knows about people. That foundational wisdom runs through this book. The research simply explained why it worked. She writes about the science of the brain the way she has always understood it: through the lives of real people.
