Notă biografică

Johnny Gruelle (1880-1938) was an American artist, illustrator, and author best known as the creator of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy, two of the most beloved characters in children's literature. Inspired by a handmade rag doll belonging to his daughter Marcella, Gruelle developed Raggedy Ann into a character whose adventures combined humor, imagination, and gentle moral lessons. Before creating the Raggedy Ann books, Gruelle worked as a cartoonist and illustrator, contributing artwork to newspapers and magazines. His distinctive style and understanding of childhood imagination helped make his books popular with generations of young readers. The Raggedy Ann and Andy stories became a lasting part of American popular culture, celebrated for their warmth, optimism, and emphasis on kindness, friendship, and compassion. Gruelle's creations continue to represent the enduring appeal of imaginative storytelling for children.
