Psychoanalysis in the Dark: Working with the Unwanted Knowledge of Trauma
Autor Roger Baconen Limba Engleză Hardback – 24 mar 2027
This compelling work brings together the insights of influential thinkers such as Francoise Dolto, Georges Perec, Jeff Eaton, Ofra Eshel, Francoise Davoine, and Wilfred Bion, weaving their perspectives into a rich tapestry of psychoanalytic exploration. Through a series of deeply reflective chapters, the book examines the silenced child within trauma, the transformative power of listening, and the emotional toll on therapists who confront their own vulnerabilities in the process. From Siri Hustvedt’s poignant narrative in The Shaking Woman to Bion’s groundbreaking ideas on memory and desire, the book bridges literature, psychoanalysis, and poiesis to illuminate the forgotten and the unspoken. It is both a scholarly and personal journey, offering a profound meditation on the act of listening and the interplay between patient and therapist.
This book is an essential read for psychoanalysts, analytic psychotherapists, counsellors, and trainees in the field, as well as academics and anyone intrigued by innovative approaches to psychotherapy and psychoanalytic theory. It will resonate with those seeking to understand the complexities of trauma, the therapeutic process, and the profound human connections forged in the darkest corners of the psyche.

Recenzii
“Roger Bacon’s new book is both humane and sophisticated. Readers will discover in it a refined psychoanalytic sensibility expressing a singular point of view. Bacon demonstrates and expands a psychoanalytic vertex, posing critical questions and sharing his long experience of helping people cope with various forms of deep psychological suffering.”
Jeffrey L. Eaton, author of A Fruitful Harvest: Essays after Bion
“The subtle lucidity of this remarkable book is at once striking and revealing. The way Bacon can combine his preferred versions of French and British psychoanalysis into something both intriguing and clarifying is itself a unique achievement. There is nothing like this, in either tone or content, in contemporary psychoanalytic writing.”
Adam Phillips, psychoanalyst and writer
“Seldom is the engagement of the analyst so accurately described in literature. What is especially appealing is its journey between authors and the moments when time stops and the analyst is stuck, feeling useless and empty: a common experience but rarely confessed. Crossing this edge, the book leads us to a new paradigm of psychoanalysis, in which neutrality is impossible. Psychoanalysis in the Dark is a daring and precious book, teaching us how to overcome impossible situations.
Françoise Davoine, psychoanalyst.
