Notă biografică
Eleanor H. Porter (1868-1920) was an American novelist and children's author best known for Pollyanna, one of the most enduring works of early twentieth-century American juvenile fiction. Born in New Hampshire, Porter first trained in music before turning to writing, publishing short stories and novels for both children and adults. Her fiction often centres on domestic life, moral testing, emotional recovery, kindness, family bonds, and the transforming effect of a generous temperament.Porter's greatest literary legacy is Pollyanna Whittier, whose "Glad Game" became so widely known that the character's name entered common speech as a term for persistent optimism. Yet Porter's work is not merely cheerful; it repeatedly places hope against grief, loneliness, illness, stern duty, and disappointed affection. For readers of classic children's books, orphan stories, American family fiction, and morally centred juvenile literature, Eleanor H. Porter remains an important and highly readable author of the period.
