Patient Zero
Autor Michael Shawen Limba Engleză Hardback – 26 aug 2026
When reports of a mysterious pneumonia emerged from Wuhan in late 2019, few imagined the world was about to enter the greatest public health crisis in a century. Within weeks, hospitals were overwhelmed, borders closed, and billions of people saw their daily lives transformed by COVID-19.
Drawing on extensive research, firsthand accounts, and verified historical and scientific sources, Michael Shaw traces the pandemic from its earliest days in Wuhan through lockdowns, overwhelmed healthcare systems, the global race for vaccines, the spread of misinformation, and the enduring challenge of Long COVID.
More than a chronicle of a virus, Patient Zero is a deeply human history of one of the defining events of the twenty-first century. It explores public health, science, leadership, loss, and the lessons the world must not forget.
For readers of medical history, contemporary history, public health, science writing, and narrative nonfiction, Patient Zero offers a powerful and unforgettable account of the coronavirus pandemic and its lasting impact on humanity.

Notă biografică
Michael Shaw spent nearly fifty years in technology and software, including thirteen years as CEO of a technology advisory firm. As a conference chair and keynote speaker, he became known for translating complex subjects into clear, accessible language and for his commitment to evidence-based inquiry.Patient Zero grew out of Shaw's personal experience with COVID-19: a five-week illness that nearly claimed his life and the loss of his ninety-one-year-old father to the disease. Determined to preserve the human stories behind the statistics, he wrote a work of narrative nonfiction grounded in extensive research and firsthand accounts. Now retired from the technology industry, Shaw writes full-time in Atlanta. Patient Zero is his first book.
