Outward Forms, Inner Springs

Autor D. Emmet
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 8 iul 1998
Building on the philosophies of the social sciences and of religion, the book is concerned with the interplay between the inner powers of individuals and the structures of their societies and also with how these inner powers affect how they see outer realities. Dorothy Emmet looks at persons in a world of impersonal processes. She is critical of the notion of a personal God, but sees the emergence of personal activities as constrained but also sustained through 'an enabling universe'.

Recenzii

'It is an honour to the learning and philosophical acumen of nonagenarians which will repay the most careful and thoughtful reading of both philosophers and non-philosophers...philosopher's philosophy, made accessible and interesting to the lay reader, and there is also the special sort of rigour given by a balanced view.' Jonathan Westphal, Times Literary Supplement
'Outward Forms/Inner Springs is filled with interesting analysis, commentary and personal anecdote...there is much philosopher's philosophy, made accessible and interesting to the lay reader, and there is also the special sort of rigour given by a balanced view.' - Times Literary Supplement
