'I was sucker-punched by this exceptional novel. Already a contender for book of the year.' Jennie Godfrey

The brain in love is not to be trusted . . .

Welcome to Pony, Wyoming, a dust bowl town way out west. Thirty miles east lies the Sheehan ranch, their neighbours the Mooney's just over the fence line. In 1936, sixteen-year-old August Sheehan falls for George Mooney. But when she finally lets him into her bed, she wakes up with a gun in her face, double-crossed for the oil beneath her land. Though it feels like an ending, it's only the start . . .

Through twelve decades and six generations, the ties that bind these families will be tested time and again. From a rodeo star who steals his best friend's girl, to two young women, close as sisters, running their ranches side by side, to a hired hand on a dude ranch selling the cowboy experience, and beyond to an imagined future where two lonely searchers find love as the dust storms close in around them.

One Trick Pony is a modern-day Western written by a modern-day cowgirl. Gritty, sexy and heartbreaking, it is set to be the debut of 2027.
