No Time to be Brief: A scientific biography of Wolfgang Pauli

Autor Charles P. Enz
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 12 sep 2002
This book retraces the life of the physicist Wolfgang Pauli, analyses his scientific work, and describes the evolution of his thinking. Pauli spent 30 years as a professor at the Federal Institute of Technology ETH in Zurich, which occupies a central place in this biography. It would be incomplete, however, without a rendering of Pauli's sarcastic wit and, most importantly, of the world of his dreams. It is through the latter that quite a different aspect of Pauli's life comes in, namely his association with the psychology of C.G. Jung and his school.

Recenzii

It is a fascinating reading, indeed, the life of this famous physicist, the evolution of his thinking, the world of his dreams, ideals, accomplishments and failures. Highly recommended to all those working in the field, and, equally of lovers of good literature!
It should remain a standard reference work for years to come ... Enz's account is a work of impressive scholarship, allied to a sympathetic insight into the character and milieu of his subject. He is owed a debt of gratitude by all physicists, historians of science and by anyone interested in the story of those heroic years when our understanding of the physical world underwent such radical change.
This book is a labour of love ... it is a marvellous, meaty, read.
Enz's portrait fascinates.
Enz has given us an authentic portrait of one of the great spirits of our time.
