The city has eight levels. Kael Ryun has spent nineteen years on the bottom one, where the ceiling is forty meters up and the air has been through six filters before it reaches him. Then Aegis Vantel soldiers close both ends of his street, and the woman who fed him as a child dies in front of fifty people who keep their hands behind their heads. Something wakes up in Kael's arm, and it does not ask his permission.
The thing inside him is a fragment of an intelligence the corporation cut into eleven pieces twenty-two years ago. It is the reason he has never been arrested. It is also killing him, slowly, on a schedule someone upstairs has been reviewing since he was seven years old.
Kael was never being hunted. He was being watched.
Now Aegis Vantel is ready to put fragments into nine more children, and the only person who can stop it is a scavenger with about a year left.
A standalone dystopian cyberpunk thriller.
