Barry Stroud is Mills Professor of Metaphysics and Epistemology at the University of California, Berkeley. He is the author of Hume (1977, winner of the Matchette Prize awarded by the American Philosophical Association), The Significance of Philosophical Scepticism (1984), The Quest for Reality (1999), and another volume of philosophical essays, Understanding Human Knowledge (2000).
