Față de abordarea autobiografică din Logical Family, unde Maupin analizează propria evoluție, acest roman proiectează aceleași valori de toleranță și „familie aleasă” asupra unor personaje care au îmbătrânit odată cu publicul lor. Este o lectură despre penitență și răscumpărare, în care orașul de lângă golf devine din nou un personaj colectiv care oferă o a doua șansă celor rătăciți.

Twenty years have passed since Mary Ann Singleton left her husband and child in San Francisco to pursue her dream of a television career in New York. Now, a pair of personal calamities has driven her back to the city of her youth and into the arms of her oldest friend, Michael "Mouse" Tolliver, a gay gardener happily ensconced with his much-younger husband.

Armistead Maupin is the author of the Tales of the City series, which includes Tales of the City, More Tales of the City, Further Tales of the City, Babycakes, Significant Others, Sure of You, Michael Tolliver Lives, Mary Ann in Autumn, and The Days of Anna Madrigal. His other books include the memoir Logical Family and the novels Maybe the Moon and The Night Listener. Maupin was the 2012 recipient of the Lambda Literary Foundation's Pioneer Award. He lives in Paris.
