Apreciem profunzimea psihologică a portretelor schițate; Muse nu caută monștri, ci oameni seduși și ulterior captivi într-o economie a morții. Cine a apreciat portretul documentat din ZeroZeroZero de Roberto Saviano va găsi aici aceeași profunzime biografică, aplicată însă unui context mult mai intim și mai visceral, centrat pe realitatea imediată a terenului columbian.

Stilul este alert, specific unui corespondent de război obișnuit cu tensiunea, dar este echilibrat de o melancolie profundă față de o țară care se luptă să scape de acest blestem alb. Credem că forța acestei cărți rezidă în capacitatea de a demonta miturile glamurizate de producțiile de televiziune, arătând, prin cele 16 pagini de fotografii incluse, chipul real și necosmetizat al traficului de droguri. Este o cronică despre seducție, putere și eșecul sistemic al autorităților în fața unei cereri globale de neoprit.

Toby Muse is a British-American writer, television reporter, documentary filmmaker and foreign correspondent. He has reported from the front lines of the conflicts in Colombia, Iraq and Syria. He has embedded with soldiers, rebels and drug cartels, producing exclusive reports from cocaine laboratories and guerrilla jungle camps. He lived in Bogota, Colombia for more than fifteen years, reporting across South America and the endless drug war.
