Introduction to Costume Technology is a handbook to costume construction, the world of theatrical construction, and related areas.
This book is an overview of costume technology intended for students who are learning sewing and costume construction in an academic setting. The book covers the basics of hand and machine sewing, health and safety in the costume shop, measurements and fitting ettiquette, a review of units of measurement, and an introduction to pattern manipulation and draping. Going beyond costume technology basics, there are chapters on research for costume technology, how to scale up patterns from diagrams, sustainability in the costume shop, how to read a script from a costume technology perspective, and costume-related jobs and employment. The book also includes course projects, interviews with professionals in theater, film, and historical costume reconstruction, and half-scale patterns.

Notă biografică

Jennifer Saxton-Rodríguez is a Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she teaches costume design and construction and script analysis and mentors student designers and interns. She is an alumna of Tarleton State University’s BFA theater program and Minnesota State University-Mankato’s MFA theater program.
