International Ethics: Concepts, Theories, and Cases in Global Politics

Autor Mark R. Amstutz
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 18 sep 2025
Through case studies and careful arguments, this book shows that moral values are an essential element of foreign policy and that ethical analysis is indispensable to the study of international relations. Mark Amstutz explores two distinct dimensions of international political morality: the role of moral norms in foreign affairs and the ethical foundation of the rules, institutions, and structures of global society. Amstutz illustrates the role of moral norms in global politics through twenty-six case studies, assessing the nature, role, and impact of political morality on international relations. The cases address six major global issues: migration, human rights, war, irregular war, foreign intervention, and international economic relations. The book's third section examines justice among states and the challenge of pursuing global justice.

Recenzii

The single best book available for providing students with a deep understanding of how the study of ethics will strengthen their moral imagination. A '10' in every respect. I would use International Ethics as a course text for any course on international relations, geopolitics, and security studies.
I would be hard put to improve on the scope and depth provided by Amstutz's text. His overview of ethics in international relations is peerless-comprehensive in scope and enlivened by case studies.
Using an extensive range of case studies to illustrate the theoretical concepts, Amstutz provides students and instructors with a foundation for dynamic discussions and deeper understanding of ethics and morality in the political world.
An excellent and comprehensive set of case studies on pretty much any topic you would want to teach in an international ethics course.
