Newman blends espionage, philosophy and a dash of hardboiled glamour in his first novel in more than a decade... a plucky page-turner with surprising heart
A fabulously English kind of a novel, filled with understatement and dry wit and warm characters with plenty of stiff upper lip... if there's any kind of justice in the world, a big and appreciative audience awaits it
Engaging... Newman, a comedian and presenter of a BBC series on philosophy, deftly draws on his intellectual hinterland to deliver a smart, witty tale with a lighter touch
Newman blends wit and tension in a brisk , brainy spy novel
Intelligence is twisty, captivating, with a plot that really keeps the reader guessing
A rollicking yarn about espionage and reconnaissance in Britain and mainland Europe during the second world war
Newman's decision to focus on two female protagonists invites new perspectives on the story of Second World War espionage and his wit and knowledge of the period enliven his tale
A spirited novel starring brilliant young female philosophers
Easy to read yet hard to put down, Intelligence is full of historical allusions, unforgettable characters and thrilling escapades
Written with great brio and aplomb
