Recenzii

'This fine, learned and patient commentary will be a great resource for those who wish to engage in a detailed study of Hosea. [...] Macintosh is tireless in his attempts to elucidate Hosea's language, ranging widely over scholarship of many centuries, but always building his comments into a lucid and coherent synthesis. [...] This is a distinguished, 'advanced' commentary that blends conservatism and innovation, and a worthy addition to the ICC.' Philip Satterthwaite, Anvil
'In this commentary, the result of a fifteen year effort, Macintosh succeeds admirably in applying traditional linguistic and historical tools of exegesis.' Gale A. Yee, University of St Thomas, St. Paul, The Catholic Biblical Quarterly,
He is one of those very accomplished English commentators who has only a B.D. but whose scholarship surpasses that of most Americans with a Th.D. [...] One of the greatest contributions of the volume is in the author's skill in weaving the historical background into the interpretation of the Book of Hosea. [...] It is a delightful surprise to find a commentator who is willing to specify his arguments for or against any particular interpretation (e.g., the crux in 2:2 [31- 38]; cf. also, 59-60). Whether or not one agrees with the conclusions, it is helpful to have such detailed interpretative information. No detail, in fact, is beyond Macintosh's attention.
The specialized appendix on the vocabulary of Hosea (585-93) provides readers with a valuable resource for the study of the book. Every exegete dealing with the Book of Hosea should avail himself of the valuable information provided in Macintosh's work.
