Recenzii
not for the fainthearted, but is a wonderful read and full of wit and wisdom and scholarship.
Bloody hell, this is a good book! Heretofore swearing has not attracted many authors and publishers. Melissa Mohr puts that right in this pithy, amusing and thoughtful study.
One of the most absorbing and entertaining books on language I have encountered in a long time.
Mohr constantly surprises and delights - and does so without ever being offensive.
This is an expansive, scholarly and wonderfully witty survey of 3,000 years of dicks and deities, turds and taboos, from the Old Testament onwards.
Melissa Mohr's book is learned, charming and - if one had read it 50 years ago - utterly filthy ... a dead cert for the next loo book of the year.
A fascinating trawl through Man's use of swearing, from Roman times to the present.
intelligent and enjoyable
So, would I recommend this book? Absofuckinglutely.
all good dirty fun.
This is an utterly delightful book. It's beautifully written, witty and in many places laugh-out-loud funny. It's also a serious book. She looks her subject matter square-in-the-face.
