'A true trailblazer, breathtakingly original, and brilliantly argued' Jay Griffiths, author of How Animals Heal Us

Violence against women and violence against our planet are not separate.
They are intricately, dangerously entwined.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
Rachel Donald was sixteen years old when a man pinned her in an alleyway and raped her.
Over a decade later, she was reporting from a conservation event in Papua New Guinea at which a multinational energy company were clearly deceiving the local population as to the harmful effects of their forthcoming methane gas project. The horror of her own experience came rushing back to her and she understood something for the first time: the way humans treat the earth and the way abusers treat women are two different expressions of exactly the same dynamic: Power. Entitlement. Denial.
That moment set Rachel on a journey through myth, law, literature and science to understand how our societies in the minority world have developed to make us accept that humans will violate nature - and that men will violate women. Most importantly, she discovered that rape is far from an inherent human practice, that many societies around the world are in fact rape-free, and also treat nature with respect. They show that there is another way; that we have the freedom to heal.
Impassioned, exhilarating and visionary, Her Body, Our Choice is a ground-breaking work of feminist thought. It is set to inspire a generation of women and activists - and to become a future classic.
