Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Headquarters, 1 Guards Brigade, Guards Division, covering January 1916 to August 1916 across 842 pages. It names 30 places across 43 dated entries. Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one casualty and personnel return, 108 reports, narratives and plans, 100 Operation Orders, eighteen defence schemes, twenty-five appendices, six maps and three diagrams. Among the papers are: Appx 192 Missing; 1st Guards Brigade. Intelligence report; 1st Guards Brigade Intelligence Summary; Daily Intelligence Summary, 1st Guards Brigade. 17/8/16 & 18/8/16; Report on Mine Explosion in Orchard (B Section) on 6/8/15; Special order, 2nd Division; Brigade orders, 4th (Guards) Brigade; Brigade orders, 1st Guards Brigade; Relief Table; March Table order No. 37; March Table issued with Guards Division operation order No. 18; Guards Division Movement Table-February 25th. issued with Guards Division order No. 24. The diary opens at Les Lauriers on 18 January 1916. 1916 is spent at Ypres, Poperinghe, St Omer, Cockshy Ho. Laventie and Calais. It closes at Meaulte on 31 August 1916. Ypres is where it spent longest, 45 days across four separate stays, including a single unbroken stay of 15 and it came back to Poperinghe five separate times. Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Canal Bank to Poperinghe. In 1916 it is also recorded at Laventie, La Gorgue, Steenvoorde, Wormhoudt, Poperinghe No. 68 Rue D'Ypres, Ypres C.2.5.d.3.7, Peperinghe, Ramparts Ypres, Ypres Ramparts and St. Marie Cappel.
