Grid Coaching: A Framework for Sustainable Leadership and Well-Being
Autor Magdalena Bak-Maieren Limba Engleză Hardback – 28 dec 2026
In today’s fast-changing world, coaches need frameworks that can hold the whole person. Grid Coaching introduces the original Grid Framework, bringing together the person, their life, and the wider systems in which they live and work within a single coherent map. In doing so, it enables practitioners to work with clients in the context of their real lives, identify meaningful patterns and possibilities for change, enabling clients to develop greater clarity, agency, and confidence. Drawing on coaching psychology, neuroscience, systems thinking, embodied practice, and decades of professional experience, this evidence-informed approach helps practitioners work creatively and confidently across leadership, well-being, performance, life transitions, and mental health.
Combining practical coaching activities, case studies, and real-world applications, this book equips readers to work systemically, ethically, and effectively while helping clients develop the capacity to coach themselves long after the coaching relationship has ended.
Written for coaches, coaching psychologists, therapists, consultants, educators, leaders, and helping professionals, Grid Coaching offers an integrative whole-person approach for those seeking to deepen their practice, navigate complexity with confidence, and create lasting change for the people they support. At its heart is an approach that enables practitioners to work with people within the realities of their lives through coaching that is systemic, visual, embodied, and deeply human.

Recenzii
The Grid is a timely framework for coaching in today's complex environment which balances depth with professionalism, integrates mind-body and supports coaches in developing their craft. This book will stimulate your thinking as we re-orientate as coaches to meet the demands of the 2030s.

A generous, grounded, and timely contribution to the field. Magdalena Bak-Maier has given practitioners something long needed: a named, practical framework for working with balance as a pathway to coherence. The Grid Framework is the result of deep practitioner-theorist inquiry—and it shows. At its core is a profound understanding that real support means attending to the whole person—inner state, life balance, and the quality of their connection to the world around them. This book doesn't flatten human complexity; it works with it. Whether you are a coach, therapist, or complementary practitioner, it will change how you sit with clients navigating the messy, layered reality of their lives. A must-read for anyone committed to walking alongside people with genuine skill and care.
– Lauretta Greer, PhD, Chartered Coaching Psychologist, originator of the concept The Grey Space™, author of Coaching in the Grey Space: Exploring Boundaries, Ethics and Complexity when Coaching and Therapy Intersect
I place my trust in people whose work reflects their heart, not just their head. The heart tells the head what to care about, and that’s where we begin, with the hidden, quiet, invisible suffering in the world. Once it knows where to go, the head tells the heart how to get there and how to truly help. Magdalena’s book provides a solid system that is both a compass (i.e., from the heart) and a navigational tool (i.e., the Grid) for those who want to help people move out of languishing lives. Nobody is addressing the unaddressed suffering a world filled with languishing lives. Pick up this book and start your journey to addressing languishing.
– Corey Keyes, academic pioneer who dared to explore mental health beyond mental illness, recognizing that flourishing is more than the absence or illness, and author of Languishing: How To Feel Alive In A World That Wears Us Down (New York: Crown)
It is quite a feat to synthesize human lived experience into a model that makes sense, can be taught, grasped and applied – and Magdalena Bak-Maier achieved it. Thousands of coaching and supervision hours taught me and my clients, time and again, to appreciate complexity and depth, rather than look for easy answers. The Grid Coaching framework Magdalena developed gives coaches a practical means to address this head on and builds on decades of experience, research, and applied practice. The Grid Framework will no doubt have a profound generative impact in coaching contexts. Coaches, clients and coaching conversations will benefit from this work and by extension, the families, teams, communities, workplaces whom we serve.
– Yannick Jacob, MSc MA, Existential Coach & Coach Supervisor; Unit Leader, Psychological Coaching, University of Cambridge
In my work with leaders globally, the question is rarely about capability, it's about capacity. Magdalena Bak-Maier's Grid framework addresses exactly this. Where much leadership development skims the surface, Grid goes to the source: the inner state of the leader, their life in full, and the wider forces shaping both. Practical, grounded, and genuinely distinctive.
– Steven D'Souza, CEO Liminal Edge Consulting; Senior Fellow, Center for the Future of Organization, Drucker School of Management; Author of the Not Knowing trilogy
In a poly crisis marked by a mental ill-health pandemic, increased polarization and conflict, and AI disruption, amongst other challenges, this excellent book is a much-needed and inspiring companion for coaches and their clients. It offers a practical and profound framework to support people to flourish, to navigate unprecedented systemic complexity, and to develop the capacity for balance and compassion. A book that is both timely, and which should stand the test of time.
– Liz Hall is the editor of Coaching at Work, the co-author of Relational Mindfulness for Coaches, a Leadership Coach and Mindfulness Teacher
In Grid Coaching, Magdalena brings to life her methodology for aligning the inner life of a person, their relational field, and the wider systemic forces shaping their world. This integration of self, relationships, and context creates a powerful and accessible framework for the coach seeking to help their clients move forward with purpose, confidence, and an enhanced sense of well-being. It is both grounded and expansive, offering clarity without oversimplifying the complexity of being human.
– Dr Paul Lawrence, Director, Leading Systemically & Honorary Research Associate, Oxford Brookes University
Grid Coaching provides step-by-step instructions for mapping a client’s personal life, self-care, work and career in context –– a fruitful way for a coach to help their client explore their life. As well as clear guidance on how to use the Grid in multiple ways, I particularly valued the explanations on how it fits with psychological approaches such as existential and humanistic, and how using this method can align with therapies including CBT and ACT.
– Dr Natalie Lancer, Chartered Coaching Psychologist
Magdalena created a book that reflects her personal style, one that has presence and purpose. She presents the concept of Grid Coaching with clarity and depth, offering a framework grounded in real human experience. What stands out is the balance between reflection and practicality. Magdalena speaks directly to the lived realities of coaches, leaders and individuals navigating complexity, and potential burnout. The emphasis on integrating inner and outer worlds is particularly powerful and aligns with current needs in coaching and leadership development.
– Rob Nathan, CEO of Career Counselling Services, Career Coach, Trainer, Author
The Grid framework offers a refreshingly analogue antidote to our technology-saturated world. Grounded in a clear and structured methodology, the author's experience, passion, and engaging tone ensure the book is a compelling read. It provides coaches with real examples and exceptional practical guidance to feel confident about integrating the approach into their practice or using it as a powerful standalone tool. An indispensable reference for any coach seeking to deepen outcomes and guide clients toward genuine balance in their personal and professional lives, and inner and outer worlds.
– Andréa Watts, Coach, Author, Trainer and Developer of the Collage Coaching Technique™ (CCT™)
Grid Coaching is one of the most complete and human‑centred frameworks I’ve seen for restoring balance and agency in an increasingly chaotic world. It brings together neuroscience, psychology, and lived experience to show us not just how people function, but how they flourish. This book offers practitioners a practical, evidence‑aligned method for helping people reconnect to themselves, navigate complexity, and create sustainable change that holds in real life.
