GOSSIPS

Autor India Rakusen
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 4 feb 2027

An explosive exploration of female friendship through the ages and right up to today.

Once, the word 'gossip' didn't mean idle chatter and unkind rumour. A woman's gossips were her ride or dies, her friends for life, her BFFs.

But something crucial changed.

In Gossips, award-winning podcaster and journalist India Rakusen takes an electrifying look at female friendship - the joys, the tricky parts and the deep suspicion these relationships have always aroused - right up to what it means today. She explores how, for centuries, women were not thought capable of true friendship, the many (many) different ways that women daring to gather together have been targeted, and what we've gained - and lost - as female friendship became the gold standard.

From how genders are socialised differently almost from birth and the intensity of platonic teenage relationships, to how we engage with our friends when we fall in love, give birth and grow old, Gossips is the definitive look at the enduring power - and ancient threat - of female friendship.

Notă biografică

India Rakusen is an award-winning journalist and presenter. Her work has featured on BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, BBC News, BBC Three, Audible, The Guardian and Refinery 29. It focuses on personal stories and the human experience, regularly digging into mental health, trauma and emotional impact as well as exploring how society has shaped our thinking and perceptions of each other. Very often she is drawn to the way history has impacted the world of women, whether that's through the perceptions of the female body (as in 28ish Days Later) or the demonising of women as witches (in Witch). She loves questioning the canon of our knowledge and sewing stories that help us feel we can look at the world differently. She is the author of Gossips.
