Gob and the Busy Bees is the fifth book in Marilyn Slaughter's six¿book children's series, Gob the Gnomes. In this warm and meaningful story, Nathan, Iris, and their mother continue exploring the outdoors together, learning about nature and the importance of caring for the environment. Their friendship with Ranger Lisa, Gob, Mera, and Nancy have grown deep, rooted in shared concern for the forest's trees, animals, and delicate ecosystem. During this visit to the national park, Iris discovers something troubling, the bees have disappeared. Gob explains how bees help trees grow, support clean air, and keep the ecosystem balanced. Without bees, the forest struggles, and Gob, Mera, and Nancy express their emotional concern about the missing pollinators. Iris takes this lesson to heart. At school, she bravely shares what she has learned with her third¿grade classmates, inspiring them to support a community garden and help protect bees. Her confidence blossoms as she realizes that even children can make a difference in caring for the environment. With the help of Nathan, Iris, their mom, and Ranger Lisa, the forest begins to recover, and some of the bees return to the national park. Gob and the other gnomes celebrate as the forest comes back to life. Rooted in centuries¿old folklore that describes gnomes as protectors of the Earth, this gentle story blends fantasy, environmental science, emotional growth, and community action. Perfect for families, classrooms, and young readers who love nature, Gob the Busy Bees teaches children about the importance of pollinators, ecosystems, and working together to care for the world around them.
