General Lachlan McIntosh, George Washington's Scottish General, is the story of Lachlan McIntosh and of early America. It chronicles the hardships endured by McIntosh and others who crossed the stormy Atlantic Ocean, settled the wilderness that would become South Georgia, fought Indians, wild animals, highwaymen, and British troops, and traversed thousands of miles on foot and horseback to wage ferocious battles. General Lachlan McIntosh killed Button Gwinnett, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, in a duel in 1777. He was almost hanged for that act and became infamous for it. But he also served with General George Washington at Valley Forge, built forts along the Western Frontier, drove the British out of Georgia, and fought at the battles of Savannah and Charles Town (today's Charleston). He was captured and survived an inhumane British prison for almost two years. He had more to lose than most Patriots. He risked it all, and he lost it all-except for his faith, family, and the country he loved. The price he paid helped secure America's freedom.
