Enterprise Architecture Debt: Why Transformations Fail and How to Fix the Invisible Constraints: Security, Audit and Leadership Series
Autor Nadzeya Stalbouskayaen Limba Engleză Hardback – apr 2027
Enterprise Architecture Debt argues that well-funded, well-governed transformations fail to deliver not from poor execution, but from the accumulated weight of ordinary, individually defensible decisions that were never reconciled against each other, and harden into constraints no one owns.
Drawing on real transformation case studies across industries and company sizes, the book introduces Enterprise Architecture Debt as a distinct, measurable condition: not a rebrand of technical debt, but a structural pattern that grows between systems rather than inside them, and stays invisible because nothing breaks outright.
Across eighteen chapters, the book shows readers how to name this debt, measure it using the Five Structural Indicators and the Architecture Debt Observatory, connect it to the business KPIs it undermines, and govern it through practical decision frameworks. It closes by reframing enterprise architecture as enterprise design: the discipline of intentionally shaping how an organisation operates, evolves, and decides.
Three appendices turn the book's frameworks into artifacts a team can use immediately: a scored, tooling-free assessment, a metrics catalogue, and nine ready-to-use templates, including an Architecture Decision Record and an Enterprise Architecture Debt Register.
Written for CIOs, CTOs, chief architects, enterprise and solution architects, and transformation leaders, this book gives practitioners language to name what they were already sensing, and gives leadership a way to see architecture debt before it becomes the reason a transformation fails to deliver what was promised.

Notă biografică
Nadzeya Stalbouskaya is an enterprise and technology architect working at the intersection of enterprise architecture, transformation, governance, and technology strategy, with experience advising large international organisations through complex, cross-domain enterprise environments.
Her professional foundation began in software and systems engineering, and progressed through architecture governance, cloud, data, AI, and platform architecture into enterprise-level transformation and decision-making. That trajectory matters: it means she has seen enterprise architecture not only as a design discipline, but as part of the real mechanism by which organisations decide what to build, what to postpone, and what to live with. Her professional certifications include TOGAF®, SAFe®, and ITIL® 4, complementing hands-on technology experience with established architecture, delivery, and service-management disciplines.
Enterprise Architecture Debt grew out of a pattern she kept encountering across transformation programmes: no single decision was ever unreasonable on its own, yet the dependencies, exceptions, organisational boundaries, and unclear ownership those decisions left behind steadily narrowed what the organisation could still do. That observation, repeated across industries and engagements, became the starting point for this book.
Her work extends the idea of debt beyond traditional technical debt to include the structural dependencies, fragmented capabilities, duplicated solutions, governance gaps, accumulated exceptions, and unclear ownership that quietly constrain an organisation's ability to change, regardless of how sound any single system or decision looks in isolation.
She is an Ambassador for the Association of Enterprise Architects and holds professional recognition through the International Centre for Metrics & Governance (ICMG), and speaks and writes internationally on enterprise architecture, governance, transformation, and the emerging role of AI in enterprise design.
Her current work focuses on making architecture constraints visible, connecting architecture decisions to business outcomes, and helping organisations remain capable of change.

Descriere
Every organisation believes it has an architecture. Few can say what it actually is, or what it is quietly costing them to keep. Enterprise Architecture Debt argues that well-funded, well-governed transformations fail to deliver.
