Seventh grade is a tough year for twelve-year-old Emma Olsen. Living with her emotionally distant, critical mother and being the victim of endless teasing at school is enough of a challenge in itself, but when Emma experiences a series of unlucky events in a matter of months, she is trapped in the downward spiral of severe mental illness. Riddled with depression and anxiety, Emma is misunderstood by everyone around her, including her own mother, who labels Emma as an attention-seeking angsty teenager. Desperate to escape her hell on earth, Emma makes a life-threatening decision, landing herself in the hospital barely clinging to life. Will Emma learn to cope with her mental illness, or will she give into the despair and hopelessness, which almost took her life in the first place?
