The letters of Nikephoros Chumnos (ca.1260–1327) have not been duly recognized as sources documenting the social relations of the Byzantine elite and as literary works in their own right. This two-volume edition fills this void. It contributes substantially to our understanding of Byzantine literature and society during the early Palaiologan period and ofepistolary literature and communicationin general.
