Dynamics of Waves and Fracture in Brittle Solid Materials

Autor Koji Uenishi
en Limba Engleză Paperback – apr 2024
Dynamics of Waves and Fracture in Brittle Solid Materials provides readers with a thorough understanding of the fundamental analytical, experimental, and numerical aspects of waves and dynamic fracture while also exploring the crucial relationship between dynamic fracture and wave motion. Beginning with the basic elastodynamics of waves and mechanics of fracture, the book later advances to discussion of fracture-induced waves and wave-induced fracture including practical case studies of previous seismic disasters and instances of unexpected fracture due to dynamic impact. Clear descriptions of complex dynamic phenomena involving the interaction of elastic waves and fracture in brittle solids is included throughout, as are mathematical equations needed for evaluating the effects of wave motion on fracture development and catastrophic structural and material failures.

  • Summarizes the fundamentals of elastodynamic wave motion and fracture development in solid materials
  • Provides practical examples including fracture in seismic disasters and due to dynamic impact loading
  • Outlines numerical and experimental methods for evaluating the effect of wave motion on fracture development and catastrophic structural failures

Notă biografică

Professor Uenishi¿s research focuses on the fracture dynamics of solid materials using applied and experimental mechanics. Besides finding a universal condition for earthquake rupture nucleation, he has clarified in novel ways the generation mechanisms of previously unexpected and unrecognized catastrophic fracture phenomena in the field of mechanics and geophysics. He is co-author of Handbook of Blast Engineering; Glossary of Geotechnical Terms; and Geomaterial Testing (all published in Japanese).
