Don Quixote

Autor Miguel De Cervantes
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 13 apr 2027
Miguel de Cervantes's magnum opus, voted the Greatest Book of All Time by the Nobel Institute, now freshly repackaged for the Union Square & Co. Signature Editions line.

After becoming enthralled reading too many chivalric romances, Don Quixote is determined to become a knight-errant himself. With the help of his loyal squire, Sancho Panza, and his trusty old stead, Rocinante, Don Quixote sets out in search of grand adventure. However, his flight of fancy often leads him astray, from holding vigil at a horse trough he believes is a chapel, to challenging a group of "giants" which are in fact windmills. Meanwhile, Sancho, acting as the voice of reason, gains a certain cunning and wisdom of his own.

Hailed by Dostoevsky as "the final and greatest utterance of the human mind," Don Quixote is frequently listed among the greatest novels of all time and highly praised in part for its satirical outlook on orthodoxy, veracity, and nationalism. The edition features the 1885 John Ormsby translation, which most modern translations have used as a model.

Notă biografică

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (c.1547–1616) was a novelist born in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. Much of his life was spent in poverty, and, after being forced to leave Spain for Rome, he eventually enlisted in the Navy. While serving, he was badly injured in the Battle of Lepanto, and spent five years as a captive of pirates until he was ransomed back to Madrid. While he published earlier works, he is best known for his two-part epic novel, Don Quixote, published in 1605 and 1615, a foundational work of Western Literature often regarded as the first modern novel.
