Colour Chemistry
Autor Robert M Christieen Limba Engleză Paperback – 8 sep 2014
This revised and up-dated second edition provides an insight into how the fundamental principles of the chemistry of colour are applied in dyes and pigments. The structure of the first edition has been largely maintained however the chapter on functional dyes has been substantially re-written to embrace the significant developments in the chemistry and technologies involved in this area in the last decade. Environmental factors have become increasingly sensitive and the chapter covering this has been expanded to reflect the importance of environmental issues in society in general and in the colour industry in particular. A new chapter is introduced on colour in cosmetics, with particular emphasis on hair dyes, due to the growing international, industrial importance of this topic. Colour Chemistry will be of interest to academics and industrialists who are specialists in colour science or who have involvement with the diverse range of coloured materials, for example traditional application in textiles, paints, printing inks, plastics and cosmetics, and functional applications in electronics and biology. Broad and balanced in its coverage, this book provides an introduction to the art of colour science that is ideal for students and graduates as well as specialists in industry and academia

Notă biografică
Robert M Christie obtained his BSc and PhD degrees from the University of St Andrews, followed by Postdoctoral positions at the Australian National University and the University of Aberdeen (funded by ICI Organics Division, Dyes). His subsequent career has included periods in industrial research with two international colour manufacturers, Ciba Pigments (now BASF, Paisley, Scotland) and Dominion Colour Corporation (Toronto, Canada). He is currently Professor in Colour Chemistry and Technology at Heriot-Watt University and he has published around 100 journal articles and patents, authored/co-authored/edited five textbooks, including recent titles, Environmental Aspects of Textile Dyeing (Woodhead Publishing, 2007), Colour Chemistry (Royal Society of Chemistry, 2001) and The Organic and Inorganic Chemistry of Pigments (2002, Oil and Colour Chemists Association). He continues to present plenary and invited lectures regularly at international conferences worldwide and was awarded a major research grant from EC Framework 6 for DIGITEX, a multinational consortium, involving the functionalisation of textiles by digital inkjet delivery. He is a member of the Editorial Boards of Coloration Technology, Dyes and Pigments and the Journal of Coatings Technology and Research. In 2009 he was honoured to receive the Worshipful Company of Dyers of London award for excellence in research in colour science.
Textul de pe ultima copertă
This revised and up-dated second edition provides a current insight into how the fundamental principles of the chemistry of colour are applied in dyes and pigments. The text has been expanded and re-written throughout, while largely maintaining the structure of the first edition. In particular, the chapter on functional dyes has been substantially re-written to embrace the significant developments in chemistry and technology that this area has experienced in the last decade. As industry and society have become increasingly sensitive towards environmental issues, the chapter describing how the colour industry has been responding is expanded to reflect this growing importance. A new chapter is introduced on colour in cosmetics, with particular emphasis on hair dyes, reflecting the growing international, industrial significance of this topic. This chapter is co-written with Dr Olivier Morel.
