One summer night a couple expecting their second child make the fateful decision to let their nine-year-old daughter camp out in their garden shed. The little girl, Kría, vanishes that night, never to be seen again.

Nine years later, in the depths of winter, Kría's clothing is discovered in an old suitcase during a police raid and the cold case of her disappearance is thrust back into the spotlight. Detectives Karó and Týr are sent to the village of Stykkishólmur on the Icelandic west coast to inform her parents, only to stumble on the scene of a murder.
