Cattle Brands

Autor Andy Adams
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 25 iun 2020
Pull up close to the fire. Dust, laughter, and hard truth. In Cattle Brands, Andy Adams gathers a western short story collection shaped like a campfire tale anthology: quick, vivid yarns of working riders, stamped with the talk, wit, and weather of the range. These are cattle ranching stories with bite and warmth, mixing classic cowboy fiction atmosphere with cowboy humour tall tales and the quieter costs of a life lived outdoors. The pace is brisk; the voice feels lived-in, not stage-set. Adams wrote from experience, and his fiction stands as a grounded counterpoint to the more romantic American Old West myth. Read alongside The Log of a Cowboy, these frontier life adventures preserve the sound of Texas cattle country at a turning point, when trails, brands, and open land were becoming memory. That authenticity also makes the book a strong choice for western fiction readers who want substance, and for American literature classroom use when discussing regional writing, labour history, and the making of national legend. Fans of Zane Grey style westerns will recognise the sweep, but here the details carry the weight. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike, for the casual reader as well. Add it to a shelf of American classics, or dip in for a single story and come away with the taste of smoke and saddle leather.

Notă biografică

Andy Adams was an American author of western literature who lived from May 3, 1859, to September 26, 1935. The son of Andrew Adams, who was of Irish origin, and Elizabeth Elliott, who was of Scottish descent, Andy Adams was born in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County, Indiana. He assisted with the cattle and horses on the family farm when he was a little boy. He moved to Texas in the early 1880s and lived there for ten years, spending a lot of that time moving cattle over the western routes. He attempted to become a merchant in 1890, but the endeavor was unsuccessful. He next tried his hand at gold mining in Colorado and Nevada. He relocated to Colorado Springs in 1894, where he remained until his death. His most popular work, The Log of a Cowboy, was published in 1903, when he was 43 years old and he starting to write. A Texas Matchmaker (1904), The Outlet (1905), Cattle Brands (1906), Reed Anthony, Cowman: An Autobiography (1907), Wells Brothers (1911), and The Ranch on the Beaver are some of his other books (1927).
