Aldous Leonard Huxley (1894–1963) a fost un scriitor și filozof englez de o erudiție rară, nominalizat de nouă ori la Premiul Nobel pentru Literatură. Provenind dintr-o familie de intelectuali celebri, a explorat în cele aproape 50 de volume ale sale teme variate, de la satira socială și eseul politic, până la misticismul universal. Deși este recunoscut global pentru viziunea sa distopică din Brave New World, spre finalul vieții s-a dedicat explorării conștiinței umane și a utopiei, publicând Island (1962). A fost o voce critică la adresa mecanizării societății, rămânând unul dintre cei mai influenți gânditori ai secolului XX.

Bernard Marx seems alone harbouring an ill-defined longing to break free. A visit to one of the few remaining Savage Reservations where the old, imperfect life still continues, may be the cure for his distress... Huxley's ingenious fantasy of the future sheds a blazing light on the present and is considered to be his most enduring masterpiece.
