Body Image Disorders: A Clinical, Psychodynamic, and Neuroscientific Perspective: IPA in the Community
Editat de Claudia Spadazzien Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 mar 2027
The chapters explore the complex interplay between the conscious and unconscious elements that shape our body image, from intersubjective experiences and emotional responses to perceptual processes and sociocultural influences. The book examines clinical manifestations including eating disorders and dysmorphic conditions to the modern phenomenon of body image addiction in social media. Integrating neuropsychoanalytic research with clinical understanding, the contributors present innovative frameworks for conceptualizing and treating body image disturbances.
Body Image Disorders integrates neuroscience with psychoanalytic theories of embodiment and clinical technique which will be of great interest to clinicians, researchers, advanced students, psychoanalysts in practice and in training, and to all practitioners working clinically with body image.

Recenzii
“This book is the epitome of interdisciplinary engagement with a topic that absolutely demands it. It is a worthy heir to Paul Schilder’s classical treatment of body image, re-imagined in order to accommodate the dramatically different world that our same old embodied selves must negotiate today.”
Mark Solms, Co-Chair of the International Neuropsychoanalysis Society; Director of Neuropsychology at the Neuroscience Institute, UCT
“This book, rich in both conceptual and clinical content, adopts a psychoanalytical and interdisciplinary approach. The resulting network of diverse scholarly perspectives on body image convincingly demonstrates that it is not only the Ego referred to by Freud, but our entire self that is embodied, unfolding in a multisensory, relational manner and through affectively charged fantasies. A contemporary psychoanalytic approach to the increasingly common disorders of body image must take into account not only the vulnerability rooted in our bodily existence, but also human resilience.”
Heribert Blass, Member and Training Analyst of the German Psychoanalytic Association (DPV), IPA President
