She is currently co-director of the Material Encounters research cluster (Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts) and Director of Doctoral Education (Faculty of Arts, Design and Media) at Birmingham City University, UK. Jacqueline has over a decade of leadership experience in researcher education including as a PhD supervisor, examiner and invited teaching and consultancy around the world, where she specialises in art research and methodologies. She has published extensively on doctoral education and her parallel research interest on language and art, most recently with the chapter ‘Painterly Poetics and Difference in the Making’ due to be published in Topologies of Sexual Difference with SUNY Press in early 2024.
Recenzii
Beyond Borders is an important “provocation and invitation to challenge fixed categories and conceptions of what constitutes creative arts research” The essays are a timely reminder of how the emergent and improvisatory approaches of artistic research allow “new syntheses of knowledge across borders of disciplines.” At the core of such approaches lies the alternative logic of embodied and experiential practice.
-Estelle Barrett, Honorary Professorial Fellow, Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne
Beyond Borders offers a rich compendium of essays by and for artists that brings arts research alive, offering the reader multiple perspectives on this “thing” called artistic research. It adopts the conceptual framework of counter-cartography to provide a springboard for artists to interrogate and articulate their own art as research.
