Suntem de părere că atmosfera este construită cu o precizie chirurgicală, amintind de sensibilitatea din Touching Evil de Kay Hooper, unde intuiția feminină devine principala armă împotriva unui rău visceral. Totuși, Kava își păstrează glasul propriu prin accentul pus pe detaliul medico-legal și pe realismul procedurilor FBI. Ritmul este unul alert, dictat de capitole care funcționează ca piesele unui puzzle macabru, unde fiecare indiciu lăsat de Stucky este o invitație la un joc de-a v-ați ascunselea mortal.
