A car will not function properly with three tires. An airplane will not fly with one wing. A pencil will not serve its purpose if it is not sharpened. Unless something is properly assembled and prepared to function according to its design, it simply will not accomplish its intended purpose. Could it be that the church is inaccurately assembled?
