No matter how hot the flame, it can't burn away the scars of the past.
Somewhere lost in Depression-era West Virginia, Paul Miller has spent the last year running from a night that took everything from him. He hopes he's finally found sanctuary on the farm of Shirley Hall, a striking woman with a sharp tongue and a deep trauma that rivals his own.
Shirley doesn't offer pity, and she doesn't ask for explanations. She simply gives him a place to hide away from the light, and in turn, Paul gives her the one thing she desperately needs: someone who understands her.
But with a lingering fire closing in fast, the two are forced to face the blaze together. How can two people betrayed so deeply by those they loved ever learn to trust again before the past burns them alive?
