This book presents current research on new developments and policies in the American Indian population in the United States. Topics discussed in this compilation include the administrative process by which groups may be acknowledged as Indian tribes; federal funding for non-federally recognised tribes; an examination of the Department of Homeland Security efforts to co-ordinate with tribal governments to address border security threats and vulnerabilities on Indian reservations; and federal agencies focus on fighting crime in Indian country and strengthening the bond between federal and tribal law enforcement.
