Advanced Polymers: Synthesis, Processing, and Future Trends
Editat de Savita Sharma, Amit Kumaren Limba Engleză Paperback – 18 dec 2026
The first section introduces the readers to the foundational concepts of polymer science, including the molecular structure, polymerization techniques, and the physical properties that influence polymer performance in practical settings. It builds a strong conceptual framework for understanding how polymers behave and how their structure determines their utility.
The second section delves into the diversity of polymers, from commodity plastics to cutting- edge materials such as biodegradable polymers, conductive polymers, and nanocomposites. It highlights the synthesis routes and engineering potential of each type, offering insights into how specific polymers are tailored for particular uses.
The third section focuses on polymer processing and characterization, presenting the techniques used in industrial manufacturing (e.g., extrusion, injection molding, 3D printing) and analytical methods like spectroscopy and thermal analysis that reveal material properties and quality.
The fourth section emphasizes the vast application domains of polymers, exploring their roles in biomedicine, electronics, automotive, and aerospace sectors, and green technologies. This section bridges theory with practice, demonstrating the tangible impact of polymer science on modern life.
Finally, the book concludes with emerging trends and challenges such as polymer recycling, smart materials, AI- driven research, and space technology applications positioning the reader to appreciate the dynamic future of this rapidly evolving discipline.

Notă biografică
Flg. Offr. (Dr.) Amit Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University), New Delhi, India, where he is actively engaged in teaching, research, and academic administration. He also serves as an Associate NCC Officer (Air Wing) with the No. 1 Delhi Air Squadron (Flying), National Cadet Corps (NCC), reflecting his commitment to leadership and youth development.
Dr. Kumar obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Delhi, where his research focused on developing generalized theoretical models for understanding the conformational and dynamic properties of semiflexible dendrimers. His research interests encompass statistical mechanics, soft condensed matter physics, polymer science, molecular modelling, computational chemistry, and multiscale modelling of biological macromolecules. His current work integrates graph theory, statistical physics, coarse- grained modelling, molecular dynamics, and machine learning to investigate the structure– property relationships of complex polymeric and biomolecular systems.
He has successfully completed and led several externally funded research projects supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the University of Delhi as Principal Investigator. His research has resulted in numerous publications in internationally reputed journals, including Macromolecules, Journal of Chemical Physics, Physical Chemistry Chemical Physics, Soft Matter, Chemical Physics, Journal of Molecular Liquids, International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, RSC Advances, and Polymers. He has also contributed book chapters published by Elsevier on environmental chemistry and sustainable technologies.
Beyond research, Dr. Kumar has made significant contributions to curriculum development, computational education, and academic innovation. He has introduced advanced postgraduate courses in computational chemistry and statistical mechanics, established a smart computer laboratory, coordinated SWAYAM and NEP initiatives, and actively contributes to institutional development at Jamia Millia Islamia. He has also served as a Guest Editor for a special issue of ChemistrySelect commemorating the centenary of Jamia Millia Islamia.
Dr. Kumar is a recipient of several academic distinctions, including securing First Rank in the University of Delhi Ph.D. Entrance Examination, qualifying the CSIR– UGC Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination, and receiving the Shikshak Samman for excellence in teaching.
