You Left Me / Not

Autor Jacqueline Marcus
en Limba Engleză Paperback – noi 2026

You Left Me / Not is a searing, tender chapbook of elegy and devotion by poet Jacqueline Marcus, written in the raw aftermath of losing her husband of forty-eight years, Richard Steven Robbins. This is grief rendered with unflinching honesty and startling beauty - a book that moves through the seasons of mourning from the shock of a November night to the fragile hope of spring, tracing one woman's journey from disbelief to a hard-won, aching acceptance.

Structured as a sequence of dated and undated poems - Night Sky, Magical Rainbow, Rumi's Field, Tomb of Gold, Spirit Dog, You Left Me - the collection captures the small, devastating rituals of widowhood: an untouched bowl of Cheerios, a favorite mug left empty on the counter, a border collie waiting by the window for a man who isn't coming home. Marcus writes with the clear eye of a philosopher and the open heart of a lifelong poet, weaving in Rumi, Tu Fu, Joan Didion, and the natural world of the California central coast - herons, blackbirds, redwoods, fog - as she searches for signs of her husband's presence in everything around her.

Framed by a Rumi epigraph and closing with poems of quiet resolve, You Left Me / Not is at once a love letter, a lament, and a meditation on impermanence, memory, and the strange, sustaining magic of continuing to talk to someone who is gone. Readers who have loved and lost will find their own grief reflected here - articulated, witnessed, and made bearable.

Perfect for readers of grief memoirs, elegiac poetry, and fans of Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking, Mary Oliver, and Jack Gilbert - this is a slim, deeply felt chapbook meant to be read slowly, and returned to often.
