Recenzii
Haser and Nasser examine three public schools in Fairfax County, Virginia that have switched to a year-round or modified calendar in hopes of raising state standardized test scores. Their report compares each principal's leadership style, highlights the benefits the year-round schedule holds for teachers, and provides an action plan for making the transition.
Through three case studies of Title I elementary schools in Fairfax County, Va., the authors explain the change process and offer general information for schools contemplating the switch from a traditional to modified calendar.
Drs. Haser and Nasser have provided needed insight into how schools can successfully modify school calendars with full cooperation of the teaching staff and coordination with the community. This is the first book in the literature on year-round education and calendar modification that focuses on teachers' perceptions of the change and how their lives are impacted by it. Educational leaders who plan to implement calendar reform will find this book a guide in their efforts to involve an important stakeholder group in that change.
