As the war draws to a close, the winter months thaw away to the spring of April 1865. In the midst of the frail South, a young Confederate soldier, Abel, returns home from war to find his plantation home lost by high tariffs to the sinister politician James Wolf. Abel unexpectedly finds himself in a forbidden romance with the darling belle, Avoline, who he later finds is the daughter of Wolf.
