Maya Tevet Dayan (born 1975) is an Israeli-Canadian poet and writer. She is the author of a novel (One Thousand Years To Wait - 2011) and three books of poetry: Let There Be Evening. Let There Be Chaos (2015), Wherever We Float, That's Home (2018) and Coping Mechanisms (2021).She is the recipient of the Israeli Prime Minister's Award for Literature for 2018 and an honorable mention from the Kugel Poetry Prize for 2016. Poems from her three critically acclaimed poetry collections have been translated into English, Spanish, German, and Chinese, appearing in publications such as Modern Poetry in Translation, World Literature Today, Literary Review of Canada, Granta, Asymptote, The New Quarterly, and others. Her poem " Foreignness" was a finalist for the Rattle Poetry Prize in 2019. She holds a Ph.D. in Indian Philosophy and Literature, and her translations of Sanskrit poetry have been featured in various venues in Israel, the US, and India. Her latest book, "Feminism, as I Taught it to My Daughters" (2023), is a bestselling short memoir in essays based on her highly popular feminist columns and essays published over the years in Haaretz magazine. Tevet Dayan is a highly popular writer and thinker in Israel and among Israeli readers worldwide and a prominent voice in poetry, feminism, and current Israeli affairs. She regularly appears on TV shows, publishes opinion columns in newspapers and on social media, her weekly podcast is sent to thousands of registered listeners weekly, and she holds poetry readings in front of vast audiences throughout the year. Tevet Dayan was a visiting poet at San Diego State University, where she taught creative writing and poetry. Together with her husband, Harel, and their three daughters, Tevet Dayan has moved between dozens of homes in four different continents. Travel life and wandering play a major role in her writing, along with the questions that arise from it: the question of home, of longing, of womanhood, and of the human's place. Jane Medved is the author of Wayfarers (winner of the Off The Grid Prize 2024) and Deep Calls To Deep (winner of the Many Voices Project, New Rivers Press 2017) Recent work has appeared in Bending Genres, Ruminate, The North American Review, and the anthologies: Ache: The Body's Experience Of Religion (Flipped Mitten Press) and Contemporary Jewish Poetry (Laurel Review) Other awards include winner of the 2021 RHINO translation prize and the 2021 Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize - Honorable Mention. Her translations of Hebrew poetry can be seen in Hala, Hayden's Ferry Review and Copper Nickel. She is the poetry editor of The Ilanot Review, and a visiting lecturer in the Graduate Creative Writing Program at Bar Ilan University, Tel Aviv.
