Two women, Sally-Ann and Martha. Both searching for love. Both devoured by the dark.
With an introduction by Grady Hendrix
In When Darkness Loves Us, a newly-married woman becomes entombed in a vast underground labyrinth. In Beauty Is..., a daughter returns to the isolated farm where she grew up. One descends into darkness; the other finds horror waiting in broad daylight. For both, desire and violence lie terrifyingly close to home.
First published in 1985, Elizabeth Engstrom's When Darkness Loves Us has become a cult classic of American horror: strange, disturbing and unforgettable. Published in the UK for the first time, these two extraordinary novellas burrow deep into the darkest reaches of love and desire.
Soon to be a major film, starring Emilia Clarke
