Linson's book is essentially a collection of anecdotes collected from his many years of working as a producer in Hollywood. The book opens while Linson is lunching with his friend Jerry, a former studio exec, at a Malibu bistro, and it is over a series of meals with this friend that Linson recollects the most trying or memorable moments of his career. Linson is one of Hollywood's best known producers, with a 30-plus year career in Hollywood and a hand in producing over 25 films, including Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Untouchables, Dick Tracy, Heat, Great Expectations, Fight Club, Heist, and The Black Dahlia. What Just Happened? will be released in the first half of 2008 (TBD) as a feature film directed by Barry Levinson and starring Robert De Niro (as Art) with appearances by Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, Kristen Stewart, and Sean Penn.
