When a classified military bioweapon escapes from a New Mexico research facility, the government loses control before it even realizes containment has failed. Within weeks, a weaponized influenza kills more than ninety-nine percent of humanity, collapsing civilization in a matter of days.
Across the country, strangers fight to survive as the world unravels. Marcus Hill, a West Texas farmer who never left his hometown, discovers that survival is only the beginning when frightened refugees arrive in Stanton, Texas. Evelyn Hart, carrying a secret pregnancy, must choose hope over despair as the world she knew disappears. Detroit radio host Thomas Reed loses the audience that made him famous and must learn to become the kind of leader people can follow in person, not just through a microphone. Meanwhile, former gym teacher Victor Kane embraces the collapse after losing his wife, transforming a desperate settlement into a brutal dictatorship built on fear.
As the survivors' paths converge, Stanton becomes more than a refuge-it becomes proof that compassion and community can survive even after civilization cannot. But Victor's growing kingdom sees every independent settlement as a threat, setting the stage for a conflict that will determine whether humanity's future belongs to those who build or those who conquer.
