For thirty years, Owen Temple has written songs about the small towns, eccentric characters, and back roads of Texas and the American interior.
Watch It Shine gathers another side of that same practice: the drawings and watercolors he's made along the way - a roadside motel, a grandfather's timepiece, beer joints, ancient Hill Country oaks - paired with the lyrics they belong to. The paintings range wider than Texas - waterfalls in Washington, lakeshores in Vermont, the canyons of Zion, the waterways of Louisiana - moments and places that stay with you forever.
A short opening essay frames drawing as a way of paying attention. The rest is what attention found: ordinary things, looked at long enough to begin to shine.
